Falls from height continue to be one of the most common causes of workplace injury and fatality in the UK. Building owners, contractors and health and safety professionals should do all what they can to create
a safe and efficient environment for workers working at heights. If working at heights is unavoidable, duty holders must follow a simple hierarchy for managing and selecting equipment for work at height.
First they should avoid work at height where they can. If working at heights is unavoidable, the first consideration should be to install a
collective fall protection system. In situations when collective protection is not an option, personal fall protection equipment - or, as a last resort, fall arrest equipment - should be available to all workers to minimise the distance and consequence of a fall should one occur.
